Participants
The methodology used during this European conference
advocates a workshop and working group dynamic which will
allow the whole audience to take an active part in working
out the recommendations which will direct the Brussels
Declaration for lifelong Media Literacy.
In practical terms, on the 2nd of December, 2010
participants will attend workshops. Initially, the
contributors, practitioners in the field who have developed
specific Media Literacy projects for a particular sector,
will present the fruit of their experience and work. Two
experts will be present in each workshop. They will listen
to the contributors, focusing their attention on everything
mainly concerning Media Literacy. The basic elements leading
to the compiling of the recommendations will be highlighted,
based on these experts’ notes. Particular attention will be
given to where Media Literacy practice between various
sectors converges.
In the afternoon, working groups will be formed to
continue considering points raised in the morning and for
in-depth discussions on the issues and suggested
recommendations already identified.
The 3rd of December, 2010 will begin with the screening
of audiovisual selections made by IHECS students. These will
contain interviews and excerpts relating to the previous
day’s discussions which will allow the audience to gain an
overall view of the progress of the work. The experts will
present these audiovisual extracts, revealing the
conclusions reached by the workshop or working group they
have followed. They will also set out the suggested
recommendations for Media Literacy.
The afternoon will be structured around the theme of
Media Literacy for every European citizen. The discussions
will be conducted in two parallel sessions:
- What media skills are necessary for active
citizenship?
- How can we make Media Literacy easier for each
citizen to access?
